Another weekend in the city

This weekend, similar to last, we explored downtown Kiev a little bit. The city is HUGE and beautiful, albeit extremely cold. I need to start taking pictures of the food I eat. Everything is delicious. And they have so many yummy cookies.

First picture, the "golden gate" not gold, not really a gate, but it used to be the entrance to the city. Now it's just a historic landmark.

Second picture. A cathedral. St... something or other. I wasn't paying very good attention. But it's right in the heart of the city so I'll be back and I'll be sure to figure out the name of it next time I pass by.

Third picture, out of order. This is me again standing at the "golden gate."

Fourth picture, another cathedral. St... yeah I don't know which Saint's church this is. But it's pretty close to the other, it's an orthodox Ukrainian church, and next time I walk by I'll figure out what the name of it is.

Fifth picture, not on here! look on facebook or instagram for that! Every sunday church is at the stake center right next to the temple. THE CHURCH IS TRUE. So cool that there is a temple in Kiev. It took us about 2 hours to get there via metro and bus. A long way, but totally worth it.

weekend in the city

This weekend we all took the metro and walked around the city. There are 6 girls including myself that teach at my school. my roommate Kim and I teach in the morning. And the other girls teach in the afternoon.
first picture, the group at Mariinsky Park.

again at Mariinsky park

i'm totes a model.

this is the bridge where people bring their locks to "lock their love"

hoping this frog turns into a prince.

downtown Kiev. This is the main street.

me, in the kitchen looking super good (obviously) and cooking some scrambled eggs.

Seriously everything in Ukraine is like a miniature size. All of the appliances look like toys. My bed is WAYY too short. Granted i'm pretty tall but i have to rest my feet on the footboard for part of the night.

Everyone looks pissed all the time. I'm pretty sure it's because they literally never see the sun. The sky is just a never ending grey that turns a slightly lighter shade of grey during the day time. In other words I'm going to come home looking super pale and super pissed. It's the Ukrainian way.

Love you all!

It's freezing here. I'm most likely going to die a cold death. Just kidding. It's cold but I love it.

First picture, my roommate Kim and I. You can sort of see there are two twin beds and a table.

Second picture, Kim and I in the school office.

Third picture, the walk to work. We have to take a tunnel to cross the highway.

Last picture, also the walk to work. There are seriously hundreds of buildings that look identical to this and are full of Ukrainian families. The number of people who must live here is completely overwhelming.

My host family speaks no english. So glad I live with Kim. She keeps me sane. I'll post pictures of the host family next time i get a chance.
Love you all.

here it goes

Let the adventures begin. For the next 3+ months I will be living in Kiev, Ukraine teaching English to little kids.

Am I going to freeze? Probably.
Do I speak any Russian/Ukrainian? Nope.
Do I know anyone in the group I'm going with? Not a soul.
Am I nervous? Only about the prospect of freezing to death. Literally, I might freeze to death.
Will I miss America? duh.
Where will I be living? With a host family!

I'll use this blog to post pictures of my life. Look at them, don't look at them. It's all the same to me. Also, if you love me, email me. carlycolson@gmail.com
